Working on your Science?
In addition to practice tests and questions, you can work on your science test by trying to think and read like a scientist.
Study with the Television ON
One thing I like is having students watch the television show "Mythbusters" and check on the show's use of the scientific method. Though you can do this with any of the episodes, I recommend you try Wheel of Mythfortune and Mini-Myth Medley. If you don't have a hulu subscription, try youtube (Waterslide Wipeout, Swimming in Syrup, Square Wheels, Tablecloth Chaos, 360-degree Ricohet) For each of the "scientific experiments" consider the following:
- What were the initial observations?
- What is the hypothesis that the scientists made?
- What experiments did they conduct?
- What were the independent and dependent variables?
- What controls did they use?
- What assumptions did they make?
- What analyses did the scientists perform on their data/evidence?
- Was their hypothesis supported? How did they modify their hypothesis following their experiments?
